My name is Laura Darnley. I’m a partner in Employment and Business Immigration Law at Ward Hardaway which is a full service law firm and I was delighted to be invited here today to speak on the panel at this event. Talking about some of the legal issues in relation to recruiting migrant workers. I thought it’s fantastic, the experiences of the individuals who were interviewed, the panel sharing all those kind of best practices, looking at some of the challenges and how to address them.
How did you find the event?
.Really fantastic and really inspiring. I think it really brought home just how challenging it is to be a migrant, what a big step it is to move to another country and start again looking for a job trying to set up a home. Those personal stories really resonated with me.
Did you see the positive impact of your work?
Oh definitely definitely it really brought it home, the kind of personal stories that sit behind some of the legal issues and clients that I’m advising on a day-to-day basis. It was really great. That’s something that businesses should look at, particularly in relation to some of the migrant populations we were talking about today. They have the right to work already in the UK, many of them, and there’s an untapped talent pool that businesses can look at if they just know how to approach these organisations. The support organisations approach the communities and really unleash that talent in their businesses.
