For for the Migrant is that studies have shown that the sooner that they can start generating an income for themselves which just typically by getting a job and working then they integrate into society much quicker and of course they’re contributing into society.

My name is Adrian Bird, I’m the Head of Aspiring Partnership which is an inclusive recruitment service that is delivered by the Growth Company.

So our aim is to support employers and organisations to diversify their workforce. To to’s event is jointly hosted by The Growth Company and Manchester City Council who hosts the regional Northwest Regional Strategic Migration Partnership and today’s event is all to highlight the benefits and value that organisation can have by hiring and employing people in migrant situations and refugees that are coming into the UK.

Who benefit

For for the Migrant is that studies have shown that the sooner that they can start generating an income for themselves which just typically by getting a job and working then they integrate into society much quicker and of course they’re contributing into society. So it’s better from a societal perspective, but it’s also better from their own perspective as well. It certainly helps to enrich their mental health, they are better for working, they want to work, they have got a lot to offer and for the companies who at the moment are experiencing struggles in terms of getting the skills that then they need, they need because it’s a really tight labor market in the UK at the moment. So one of the areas where an employer can really benefit is by looking at refugees and migrants who come into the UK with a high level of skill. A lot of them are degree educated, a lot of them have got really technical expertise.

Challenges

The struggle for many tends to be cultural and language barriers but I think with some tolerance on both sides we can easily overcome that and then both sides can then flourish. So today we have brought a range of different organisations together to talk about how they are impacting the area of supporting migrants to find work. So there are a lot of voluntary and community organisations that have lived experience from being in other countries coming over to the UK. We have also got practitioners from recruitment organisations and employment organisations like ourselves at the Growth Company and also then the City Council who are funded by the Home Office in order to help deliver services that support individuals and organisations. Lastly i’d say that if anybody would like some support in terms of understanding how to employ refugees or migrants. Ten. Please come and speak to us Aspiring Partnership or come and speak to the Regional Strategic Migration Partnership.
